** How do I determine the Quality of Travertine Tile?

1) Travertine tiles are prouos material, you can easly understand quality of tile from holes. Good quality of travertine tiles shouldn't have big holes/filles on the surface.

2) Cut edges, second important factor is when you lay-out the tiles, all tiles should perfect fit the each other and there is no gap between edges and between the tiles. (if you want grout line spaces should be equal)

3) Bend/bevel/thickness; Each tile must be flat and the thickness difference between the tiles must less than 1000/1.

General Information About Travertine Tiles;

Travertine is a form of limestone deposited by mineral springs, especially hot springs. Travertine often has a fibrous or concentric appearance and exists in white, tan, cream-colored, and even rusty varieties. It is formed by a process of rapid precipitation of calcium carbonate, often at the mouth of a hot spring or in a limestone cave. In the latter, it can form stalactites, stalagmites, and other speleothems. It is frequently used in Italy and elsewhere as a building material.

Travertine is a terrestrial sedimentary rock, formed by the precipitation of carbonate minerals from solution in ground and surface waters, and/or geothermally heated hot-springs.[1][2] Similar (but softer and extremely porous) deposits formed from ambient-temperature water are known as tufa.

Travertine Tile Care & Maintenance

-Clean up the spills immediately from tiles.
-Don't use cleaners that contain acid such as bathroom cleaners and scouring powders and abrasives.

Remember Travertine is etched by acids, juice and soft drinks.

We recommend to seal all travertine tiles indoor & outdoor.
